URGENT HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

Rebuilding Sri Lanka After the Floods

Emergency Appeal: Your help can save lives and rebuild communities

Sri Lanka Flood Crisis

Between November 28 and 30, 2025, catastrophic floods swept across 12 districts of Sri Lanka, becoming the worst natural disaster the country has faced in over a decade. More than 50,000 families have been affected as entire villages were submerged beneath rising waters.

Homes were destroyed, agricultural lands devastated, and critical infrastructure—including roads, bridges, wells, and sanitation systems—suffered severe or total damage. Families who once had stable livelihoods now face complete uncertainty.

Over 10,000 families have been displaced and are living in temporary shelters with limited access to clean water, food, sanitation, and medical care. Children are out of school, farmers have lost their harvests and livestock, and thousands of households are struggling daily to meet even their most basic needs.

The emotional and psychological toll is profound. Many families have lost everything they owned. The elderly, children, and persons with disabilities remain the most vulnerable and are in urgent need of protection and assistance.

Immediate Needs

  • Emergency shelter for 2,000 families still living in unsafe conditions
  • Clean drinking water and sanitation facilities to prevent disease outbreaks
  • Food supplies for 10,000 families for the next three months
  • Medical care and medicines for flood-related illnesses and injuries
  • Psychological support for trauma survivors, especially children
  • Our Response

Humanitarian Foundation Sri Lanka began emergency operations immediately as the floods struck. Our rapid response teams were among the first on the ground, working around the clock to:

    • Rescue stranded families

    • Distribute emergency food, water, and relief packs

    • Set up temporary shelters

    • Provide basic medical aid

    • Support vulnerable children, elders, and people with disabilities

Within the first 30 days, we have already provided life-saving assistance to over 1,000 families. Despite these efforts, the scale of the crisis is overwhelming, and thousands more are still waiting for help.
